Ken Follett makes outrageous slur against Pope Benedict

In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek the British novelist Ken Follett makes an outrageous slur against Pope Benedict role in the child sex abuse crisis, even going so far as to call for a new pope!

‘Lundborg: Why did you protest the Pope’s visit to England?

Follett: The Catholic Church can’t recover until it has a new Pope. The fact that this Pope, when he was Cardinal Ratzinger, covered up hundreds of crimes of pedophilia, [sic] some of them victimizing orphans with no parents to protect them, and the fact that he hushed that up and let it continue is insupportable.’

Protect the Pope comment:  There is no evidence that Cardinal Ratzinger covered up hundreds of crimes of paedophilia but enemies of the Church keep repeating the same lie over and over again in the media in an attempt to fix it as the ‘truth’ in the public consciousness. And no one in the media challenges them to back up their assertions with objective evidence.  The media’s co-operation with this drip drip character assassination of Pope Benedict is shameful.

Its also ludicrous that Follett pretends that Pope Benedict’s amazingly successful visit to the UK never happened, and that the groups protesting against the visit were insignificant compared to the hundreds of thousands who welcomed the Holy Father. But then Ken Follett is a writer of fiction.

Where is the evidence? People keep saying it exists, and yet provide no evidence. Because there is no evidence. These people will stay dislike the Catholic Church if there is a new Pope. It will make no difference. Pope Benedict has done a lot to combat child abuse, the zero tolerance policy, meeting with victims etc.

The Italian daily Avvenire simply and rightly says about this: Follett should be renamed FOLLE (keep in mind that FOLLE means lunatic in Italian)
