Pope Benedict’s prayer for the protection of the unborn child

Pope Benedict has composed a prayer for the unborn child which was first prayed during the Vigil for Nascent Life on the first Sunday of Advent. I encourage all readers of Protect the Pope to print it off and pray it during these weeks of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Our Saviour:

Lord Jesus,
You who faithfully visit and fulfill with your Presence
the Church and the history of men;
You who in the miraculous Sacrament of your Body and Blood
render us participants in divine Life
and allow us a foretaste of the joy of eternal Life;
We adore and bless you.

Prostrated before You, source and lover of Life,
truly present and alive among us, we beg you.

Reawaken in us respect for every unborn life,
make us capable of seeing in the fruit of the maternal womb
the miraculous work of the Creator,
open our hearts to generously welcoming every child
that comes into life.

Bless all families,
sanctify the union of spouses,
render fruitful their love.

Accompany the choices of legislative assemblies
with the light of your Spirit,
so that peoples and nations may recognize and respect
the sacred nature of life, of every human life.

Guide the work of scientists and doctors,
so that all progress contributes to the integral well-being of the person,
and no one endures suppression or injustice.

Give creative charity to administrators and economists,
so they may realize and promote sufficient conditions
so that young families can serenely embrace
the birth of new children.

Console the married couples who suffer
because they are unable to have children
and in Your goodness provide for them.

Teach us all to care for orphaned or abandoned children,
so they may experience the warmth of your Charity,
the consolation of your divine Heart.

Together with Mary, Your Mother, the great believer,
in whose womb you took on our human nature,
we wait to receive from You, our Only True Good and Savior,
the strength to love and serve life,
in anticipation of living forever in You,
in communion with the Blessed Trinity. Amen

This is a beautiful prayer, first heard in Fr. Joseph Mary’s homily today (1-16-11) at Mass on EWTN. Have sent it to most people on my email list.

A prayer for the right to life: “For our elected officials, especially our President, will see the infant Jesus in the womb of the Blessed Mother, as the example of protecting ALL LIFE especially the unborn child in the womb”—-We Pray to the Lord

  • This is a beautiful prayer. I came across it because I am currently pregnant and have had 3 miscarriages previously today i had my first ultrasound which showed no heartbeat the doctors have basically said its not developed the way it should be based on the calculation not from my actual conception date that I know but the date of my last period oh I pray that this prayer comforts me in this time of despair please grant me with the blessing of such a beautiful gift of life!!

Dear Lisa, I’m so very sorry that you have suffered the death of your babies through miscarriage. Two of my own babies died through miscarriage, Gabriel and Ariel. My wife and I grieve for them everyday, and we know that we are not the same people we were before the death of our children. We live in a big house we bought to fill with children, and it remains empty. Our children are in heaven, but how we wish they were with us. I have written a booklet for parents coping with the grief and suffering of miscarriage and stillbirth called Prayers for Grieving Parents. Its published by the Catholic Truth Society. You are in my prayers, Deacon Nick
